Was looking for a router upgrade over my D-Link as the speed and coverage was low, and this perfectly fits the budget. I come from a networking background and I should say this is a good device.
Cons: 👉 Good network coverage on 2.4 GHz band 👉 Comes with screw sockets so that it can be mounted on the wall (huge deal - most routers these days are table top ones only. Very important if you're trying to get more coverage across multiple floors) 👉 Is feature packed for a router at this price point 👉 Is easily upgradable to 3rd party firmware which is even more feature packed 👉 Can block URLs at the router itself. If configured properly with good DNS settings, can block ads on all websites at the router level itself 👉 Easy to setup and configure 👉 LEDs can be configured to automatically switch off at night so that it doesn't keep blinking in the eye if installed on the wall
Cons: 👉 The box advertises bandwidth allocation, but this only works for allocation to 2.4 or 5ghz bands and not to individual devices 👉 5 GHz band is a bit weaker compared to 2.4 and honestly most homes are not ready for 5ghz networks. Same product minus the 5ghz band but a stronger 2.4ghz signal would be killer router for most homes 👉 The antenna is longer than usual and it's orientation affects network availability over multiple floors. Have to do a bit of trial and error to get the best reception. (Use an Android wifi app for it) 👉 MAC address spoofing does not really work. (Might get fixed by future update)
