Not what I was expecting
21 February 2019
Kalam Kuch Ulte Panne is a reverse biography where the author has imagined a few incidents which might or might not have occured in the life of APJ Abdul Kalam and told them in his own words. It is the fictional take on the life of APJ Abdul Kalam.
Among all the stories I liked the first one where Kalam Sahab had been shown in a hospital on the deathbed and the whole nation was praying for him. The way the author has played with words in this story was incredible and amazing. He bamboozled me into thinking something and something else happened.
Rest of the stories were not so interesting.
But my major remorse is that there is no major takeaway from this book. When you pick up a book on APJ Abdul Kalam, you expect to learn something about this great leader, his vision and dreams, his wisdom and experience, his qualities and key skills. It is not a thought provoking book about the most thoughtful person our century has witnessed. I was expecting the book to be inspiring and insightful.
The author missed a golden chance to write an inspirational fiction on APJ Abdul Kalam. There are so many interesting anecdotes and stories about Kalam Sahab which the author could have presented in the book in the fictional format giving away important messages and making it worth a read.
