A story about an unusual gift
26 March 2019
Birthday Girl by Murakami is a short story which takes place in an Italian restaurant in Tokyo. The unnamed protagonist who had to work on her birthday gets an unusual birthday gift from the restaurant owner. Anything more about the plot would spoil it so I would recommend you all to give it a read to know more about it.
The narrative style is easy and mysterious at the same time. Like most of Murakami's books, this one also has an open end. Some people find it frustrating but I feel that it reflects the genius of the writer because the book actually enables the reader to think and interpret the story in a subjective way. The multiple interpretations add to the value of a book and I find it fascinating.
