A story about the times we live in…
22 December 2018
Missing by Sumana Roy. A story beginning and ending in a household in Bengal. Yet, all you need to do is change the location, characters and idiosyncrasies of the Bengali characters to any state of your choice and the story would hold true for the nation as a whole that is India today. It is set in Siliguri, the gateway town to the North Eastern states of India.
A novel can never be summarised into just one theme. It is true for Missing too. It is about the missing truth in ‘news’ these days belted out by the commercial media. It is about the missing love between neighbours - be it between people or borders of states and countries. All beautifully woven together through the story of the missing wife of the main protagonist, Nayan.
