This is a excitingly bold book. It offers an experimental style of writing called 'stream of consciousness' (also used by James Joyce in Ulysses) which renders an unbelievable continuity to the otherwise disarrayed content. As the novel progresses, the similarities between Mrs Dalloway and Septimus Warren Smith becomes more and more apparent. Woolf does a fine job in thinning the boundary between sanity and insanity. The themes of love and jealousy, the hold of the past and almost every other aspect is beautifully laid out. Read it for its exquisite language if for nothing else.

5.0 out of 5 starsA really wonderful and moving story written in the stream of consciousness ...

A really wonderful and moving story written in the stream of consciousness style , describing a day in the life of people in the city of London including the titular character Mrs. Dalloway. The narrative flows smoothly , with the characters reminiscing about their past and present life. It is a novel about memories with people reflecting on the choices they have made . The parts dealing with Septimus Smith's memories (whose story runs parallel to Clarissa Dalloway ) are bit to difficult to understand and read , but still one gets what the Author is trying to convey and awed by the writing. Virginia Woolf captures Septimus' pain and anguish over the loss of his friend during WW! . And the lives of other characters as they move about with their lives including Clarissa is also depicted in a beautiful way. The prose is very poetic and dream like. This is a novel one should definitely read .
