Can't get over this book..What a masterpiece! Premchandji is perhaps the most poigant writers of his age.Admist the whole story, there is a prevailing sadness in the book..This is a true account of peasants and their life. The hardships they go through but to say that this is only about that is a great injustice to the book. This book is also about gender differences, urban life, moneylenders, women, caste system, love, family, envy, the hold society has on our lives and much much more..It glimpses on almost every aspect of our society. This book is one of the best creations of premchandji. I bought the book for ₹212 (incliding delivery charges).. the coverprint was different from the one shown here, the condition of the binding was somewhat satisfactory but not too great. Font was big and agreeable.
Does this book really need a review. It is one of the finest book ever written in Hindi literature. Munshi Premchand's last book and his finest writing.
This is a story of a poor family who is fighting poverty. Lots of tragedy happens to them. They try to be humble, brave but society crushed them. BRUTALLY. I didn't expected that end.
If you going to read this I must tell you when you finish this you won't feel happy. It make you questions about the situation of the farmers in India. I believe the situation of the farmers are not better than that describes by Premchand.
Read this and you'll realize why Munshi Premchand hounred by the title "Upanyas Samrat"(Emperor among the Novelist).
Shri Munshi Premchand is a distinguished author in Hindi Literature. His works are published and translated in various foreign languages too. It is an honor to Review this book in Hindi. This book was written in and around Pre-/Post-Independance era. The book is ugly and messy but unfortunately true to every word. It was the time of immense sexism, casteism, and poverty. It depicts the flaws in Zamindari system Reading this book reminds me of many things that I have but I take for granted. Express more gratitude towards Life. The irony of this book is the name fo the book only comes once in the whole book that too in the late page. Today is the best time to be alive. But people are thankless these days. It is worth the read. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Thanks, Google Translate!
I would suggest to buy a paperback book rather than reading on Kindle because in the electronic edition they are lot of printing mistakes which degree it's the reading experience. Also the book is a Masterpiece so you should add this to your collection. Book is very character oriented and the portrayal of every character is so lively and vivid, that even after the book is finished those who characters well stay in your mind forever. People say that Hitchcock was a genius because he was able to establish a movie in just 2.3 minutes in rear window in a single shot. So does Premchand in his just 1.2 pages you get the feel of the book the complexity of human existence irony and tragedies associated with it. If you are an Indian and Hindi speaker then you will be totally able to enjoy the book.
I totally love the book cover. It's quirky and reflects essence of the book. The story is simple yet captivating. Get it for a classic Munshi Premchand experience. Munshi Premchand is as iconic here as he is in Other books. Its a must read for hindi classics lovers
This is an amazing work of Prem Chand. It will shatter our beliefs like English writers are superior when it comes to philosophy. This book not only contains the simple but emotional story of a farmer who, just like any of the farmers, is debt ridden and struggles to survive but also discusses philosophy of what is the true nature of human being and especially of women. Godan's protagonist Hori is a vivacious personality. Even though he is debt ridden but he still manages to laugh through the difficult times. Great read!
Masterpiece, current gen must read this book. All your prejudice about India will be cleared. Talks about socio economic conditions of our country and morals and vices in the society. Importance of cow for a farmer( holy deity)
This book is simply marvelous as a novel. There is mostly tragedy but there are also moments where the reader will find some serious humanitarian episodes. Gifting a cow (Godan) is not really the central matter of the story, The uncharitable attitude of money lenders turns out to be the main reason for the sufferings which the farmers undergo.
