The movie is great and this review is basically about the pathetic transfer to Blu ray, NOT the movie itself.
As I already have this movie - a classic if I might add, on DVD, I wanted to upgrade to Blu ray to enhance the viewing pleasure on my 55 inch SONY.
However, I was really disappointed by the exceedingly poor transfer to Blu ray. Sure the picture is sharper but that should not be surprising considering the limitations on the DVD format - as opposed to the DVD media, which can actually be used to copy full HD in the form of AVC HD format.
The picture in this case is very grainy and worse, the audio is not noticeably better than that on the DVD. I was hoping that with a transfer to Blu ray, the producers/etc would have also worked on improving the audio quality. Not so.
Conclusion: If you have these classics on DVD, it makes little sense to spend extra for a Blu ray (since you would have to discard the DVD copy, unless you would rather keep the Blu ray AND the DVD!!)
In case money is no object then the Blu ray is a better bet that is if you do NOT already have the DVD. Enjoy the movie at any rate - it's great.
