Works perfectly and seamlessly with the Amazon Fire Stick as a media server and streaming app. Highly recommended.

I'm using the free Plex server on my Windows desktop to stream videos to my Sony Bravia with the Amazon Fire Stick.
Works perfectly. Just install the server on your Windows machine and point to the folder you'd like to share.
I am using the Fire Stick through a D-Link VDSL Router/WiFi. My desktop is hardwired to the router while the Fire Stick is on the WiFi.
Plex configures everything nearly without any intervention especially if you just plan to use your local network for sharing your files. In case you need to access the Web or FTP sites for streaming to your TV, Plex will easily configure things up with the least amount of headache. It is perfectly safe and secure. You can also restrict access to both the server and the player with passwords so only the clients you choose are connected after verification. You can use laptops, smartphones, tablets, any smart device... for streaming and file sharing with Plex from anywhere in the world.
I found this to be perfect combination. And since everything is streamed locally, there are no data charges incurred for any amount of streaming.
If you want, Plex will also check online databases like IMDB to generate thumbnails and reviews/details for the movies or serials you have on your server and display these in tabular order on the TV so you just scroll, click and play.
Whatever common media format you use, Plex will acess, organize, stream and play it. Movies, audio, images... it plays everything.
Amazing product. Highly recommended.
