✨Recommendation- I recommend you to read this book which will transport you to the world of Tilo and her spices. It will ensnare you to this magical world until you flip the through the last pages after which you will feel a lingering taste of Spices urging for more.
✨Plot(Without revealing much)-
Tilo is a Mistress of Spices who has her shop Spice Bazaar located in Oakland. She helps people in solving their life's problems with the magic of the spices. All was going well until one friday evening an American walks into her shop(& life) and messes up everything she ever knew. In doing so she is forced to choose between her love for her spices or Raven( the American). Whom would she choose? (Read the book to know🙌)
◆Divakaruni crafted a complicated story involving magic, Spices, Tilo, the island, Tilo's customers, Raven all in the heart of America in beautiful yet subtle manner which is possible only for her.
◆ The protagonist Tilo is not shown as a perfect or flawless person which adds a realistic touch to the story.
◆ The story of Tilo's love interest Raven opens slow and moves gradually towards its climax without any haste.
◆Stories involving the racism and atrocities towards Indian immigrants in the heart of America have been wonderfully crafted involving- Haroun, Young Jagjit & Mohan.
◆The issue of inter-cast love & relationship has been portrayed by love story of Geeta & Juan and its repurcations by Geeta's grandfather & her parents.
◆Then within all these issues is the issue of domestic violence portrayed by Ahuja's wife who found her way out later & resumed her true identity as Lalita.
◆Among all these is the most beautiful portrayal of forbidden love between Tilo & Raven.
● The continuous shift between the first person & third person angle becomes a bit confusing at times..
