Initially, I was of the opinion that this is a non-fiction and I would not be able to peruse it before reading works of Gustave Flaubert. However, my friend(read:teacher) told me I don't have to know Flaubert at all and this book is a great work of art in itself. I got back home and ordered it and started reading it without any further delay. Surprisingly, I loved it. I got to know a lot about Flaubert; his life, his works and the conspiracies surrounding him. Other than Flaubert, the story of the doctor who is the main character of the book is equally eye-opening and poignantly beautiful. Barnes knows clearly how to write on life . He is a wonder! Also, I really want to visit Rouen, France and explore Flaubert's home.
