The subject of the work is interesting and it comes as a real tribute to the poets who loved and lived in Delhi. The author beautifully draws the biographical sketch of the poets and then tries to highlight their poetic contribution by emphasising the most important and interesting poetry of selected poets. Had the author been able to dwell deeper into the intellectual perspective of these greatest poets, the value of this work would have increased many fold.
Bought it at the book launch, where all the stars of Delhi congregated that evening. A pure, humorous and informative insight into what Urdu is and its background. It perfectly sets the stage for the author to tell his story of the Eight Greatest Poets of the Mughal City. The author has chosen the 'first rung poets' of Urdu at that time who have contributed to its popularity to a great extreme.
A must read for every delhite and also all who loves Urdu and shayari.
A masterpiece, which seems to be a result of prolific research, in depth evaluation and beautiful analysis of information. A must have for all those who are interested in knowing about Delhi that was.... Mesmerising and Nostalgic.
