Book_Review 📖 A Night In The Hills by Manav Kaul is a collection of short and intriguing stories from various parts of country. These stories depict the complex lives of simple people. The writer has tactfully raised the ordinary lives & people to extraordinary level. These stories encompasses teenage-love, lust, fear, love, longing, desire, etc. which is very different from the usual ones we read. . 📖 Plot in each story is very engrossing, beguiling and close to our hearts. It’s like writer has taken us to a different time altogether to enjoy the depth and beauty of each and every written story. I enjoyed reading all of the stories, some more than others. I loved “A bunch of old letters” the most. It’s a great work of fiction if you want to read something different and riveting at the same time. . 📖 is a brilliant actor and a writer. I have seen movies and simply loved it. This is the first book I am reading written by him and I cannot wait to read more. I wish to read and see more of @manavkaul . . .

The characters in Manav Kaul's A Night In The Hills are not strangers. We know them and we know these stories. They are part of our collective unconscious; deeply rooted in the psyche. The Hindi title, Prem Kabootar, would suggest that these are love stories, but the stories are much more than that. Reading them feels like peeling off the layers of an onion. My favourite stories in the collection are A Bunch of Old Letters, Five Grains of Sugar, and the title story, A Night in the Hills. The translator, Pooja Priyamvada, whose writing I have always admired, has done an excellent job of bringing these stories to us in English. She has skillfully managed to preserve the natural cadence of Hindi, and the fragrance of that language stays between the lines. Thoroughly enjoyed the read and enthusiastically recommend it!
