As the book came to end, I knew that I’m going to go back to it very soon and that doesn’t happen very often. I want to be there with Mariam as her story compellingly unfolds whilst intersecting with that of the girls/ women. At every point, I see myself in each of these women- sometimes one of them and then parts of them in me. Their journey helps one retrace one’s journey in terms of how the choices we make or those that life sets before us shape us into becoming who we are.
Your attention to detail is fabulous! I must tell you, the manner in which the book unfolds, the themes of identity, love, loss - remind me of Umera Ahmed’s work - her novels & her dramas. & I think she’s brilliant- just as you are Experiencing her work has this redeeming quality which I see in your book too. I spent a lovely weekend with these ladies ! Shukriya. Andaleeb Wajid .
