This is a well written book on the common and uncommon mammals of India, covering all most all the species found from Himalayan terrain to down south. Added with clear real life photo graph has made this book very useful. Another useful section of this book is the crisp guidelines for enthusiastic nature lovers regarding identifying difgerent aspect of wild mammals as well as basic rules of jungle. I would like to specially thank the author for providing different useful contact in relation with protection and conservation of endangered mammals. Any person who is interested to contribute in protecting and conservation of our wild mammals can contact with the respective persons.Price is also very reasonable. Waiting for updated edition with more added species (if left ☺) Sukalyan Ray email@example.com
An awesome pictorial guide with accompanying textual information to many mammals and species! If you are looking for in-depth knowledge on each mammal, you might be better off looking for a dedicated book to each species. But if you want to know the most essential details of each category, then this is a wonderful choice. I had even checked with a wildlife biologist before buying this book, he recommended this one over S.H.Prater's. :) A lot of thought has gone into the design of this book, you'll know when you receive your copy. The author and publishers have been very thoughtful considering this is meant to be a field guide you would be carrying around.
Note: The cover is neither hard nor soft. It's strong enough to be protected from wear and tear; but on frequent use, a stress line will appear unlike on a hard cover. Excellent book either ways. Happy reading!
This book is one of a kind.. for mammals there are not many options. but this book is excellent; very organized content with excellent pictures;covers all wild mammals;;; except for few, contents for other mammals are no way descriptive, but still good. images are of high qualityl;; would have preferred if behaviour data more descriptive;; but for 590 INR, this book is a steal
Kudos to Mr. Menon for doing an incredible Ctrl+A of Indian mammals within the covers of this excellent book. Some of the photographs could have been brighter, but at least most are pretty presentable. A field guide should be portable and this is, the thumbnail information is concise, relevant and well presented. For forty pluses like me, I would request going up at least a font size if possible in the next reprint. The range is amazing, the personal notes and addenda make interesting reading. This book should go a long way to initiate the general masses who flock to our forests mostly to see the tigers and the rhinos, that India has other wonderful jewels who warrant and justify a greater attention. This volume should be on the shelves of everyone who have some interest in the natural wealth of our incredible India.
This book covers almost all mammals of India. Well designed book that could be carried on a safari trip or jungle visits. Very informative and stand out details and description on each individual mammal. Only thing I would suggest to improve in further editions is - pls print on matte paper and avoid marginal outlines. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who has an interest among Indian wildlife. (Even children)
Wanted an Indian book on the diverse mammals of India and this book almost does the job maybe it can be better in new editions probably five or eight years later as it is still good for some time ..the photographs of the animals in the book are one highlight and content of (text)data is pleasantly nice as well
The book so informative and also with a good collection of photos of Indian mammals. I received book in almost good condition except of little damage corners because of poor packaging. it also kinda small but I think they make it this size for a purpose because it a field guide so it has to be small for carried easily.
Literally the best affordable field guide you can get on Indian mammals but i consider mammal's of South asia vol 1 and vol2 more but anyways they are pricey, coming to this it's handy and it's very informative with tons of pictures,i got it for 510rs which was good deal
