This was my first experience with Marissa Meyer. Obviously, I had no idea how it was gonna turn out to be. I had high hopes and expectations over this book considering the great reviews and ratings it had received and the lone fact that it was a Marissa Meyer book.
And I must say, I am not completely satisfied with it. I've always wanted to read one of her books. Like every other readers, TLC was my first choice. But the plot of Heartless got me hooked! The book started out really strong, making it so promising. Yet, as the story progressed, it lost its mojo. The story became quite predictable. What was to happen to the characters, who is responsible for what etc etc. That was what disappointed me. That it failed to blow my mind. To be honest, I even wanted to DNF the book at one point. But I kept going. And I'm happy that I did. The end wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Also, being a girl who thrives over cooking/baking, I shamelessly fell for the overly exuberant description of bakes, treats and sweets in the book. *drools*
However, I have to commend the author for one thing. The idea of giving a backstory to the notoriously wicked Queen of Hearts is pure genius! That she once was also an ordinary girl with expectations and dreams, a girl who wanted to live her life the way she had hoped for, with the man she loved. But circumstances changed her to who she is right now. That the evil Queen is evil for a reason.
Jest X Cath defines feeellsss! God i absolutely adored the chemistry between them. Marissa portreyed all the characters so well. Her style of writing is phenomenal. Overall, the book failed to impress me to the max, yet it did not utterly disappoint me either. I'm a happy girl 😊
Regardless of my mixed feelings to this book, I can't wait to get my hands on TLC. Hoping that it I'll blow my mind to bits.
