Who is the friend that helped Tessa and she's indebted to? Who's the Legend and what's his story? Another game, but it's not only a game... Once started, Can't keep the book down... As good as Caraval.. But winning or losing the game which isn't just a game has consequences...
WOW. What an utterly magical and spellbinding world this was!
I didn't love Caraval as much as I would have liked, though it was a 4 star read for me. I guess the hype shot my expectations WAY up... But I enjoyed it enough to be excited about the release of Legendary and get it as soon as it came out.
I went into it without any expectations, so I was wonderfully surprised by how much I loved it! LEGENDARY JUST LITERALLY BLEW ME AWAY! I was instantly swept up into Scarlett and Tella's dangerous world of Caraval. The writing was so beautiful and the descriptions made me imagine the enchanting world so vividly. The colours and lights and deep, dark magic blending into a storm that bewitches and pulls you in, so when the book was over, I sat there stunned and completely dizzy from the sudden absence of the relentless world.
The cover is also BRILLIANT AND BEAUTIFUL DID I SAY THAT YET?
I loved the mysterious and elusive nature of the whole story! It kept me guessing from start to finish, and I was so into it I even made a list of points about the story to help me sort out what I knew and didn't know. After all, you can't believe everything you see... The plot twists and turns and keeps you hooked but trying not to scream as you come closer to the end but there's still too much left unanswered! This time around, the stakes seemed much higher and the fact that the game actually may not be a game anymore did not let me put the book down! I just had to know what happened next.
The protagonist, Tella, is Scarlett's sister. I liked Tella a lot more than I liked Scarlett, for she's daring, impulsive and extremely sassy, and never lets anyone stand in her way. She always has something to say and always knows what to do next. I just loved her!
Is Jacks the antagonist? Is Legend the antagonist? Is there an antagonist? Is there any bad or good here? I couldn't tell, and I still can't. Everyone here could be seen in any way from how much we actually know (which is barely anything SO I REQUIRE BOOK 3 IMMEDIATELY). Saying that, I really liked Jacks. I will continue forever believe he had a good reason for everything he did (but who doesn't love a villain anyways?) I was low-key shipping Tella with him.
AND NOOOOOO A CLIFFHANGER ENDING, WHY A CLIFFHANGER???? I NEED BOOK 3 I REPEAT I NEED BOOK 3. And what just happened? Still trying to process it all.
The only thing I wasn't very happy about was Legend's identity. I kept expecting a twist to arrive... but it never did. I was honestly disappointed at who Legend turned out to be... mostly because it was revealed like halfway through the book without actually being revealed but no other leads were given??? But the twist after the reveal made up for it.
Though something is bothering me... are we still being tricked? Is all of this part of a larger game? And Legend is not Legend at all?
Holy Smoke! This book is awesome.I don't know why it took me this long to pick it up considering how much enjoyed reading Caraval. Legendary takes the magic of Caraval up a notch making it absolutely stunning. We have got cursed cards of destiny and a prince who's kisses are deadly...... QUITE LITERALLY! Having a new protagonist and a new venue for Legend's Caraval makes it even more unbelievably fantastic.
In Caraval,we saw Scarlet beating every odd to save her sister,Tella. In Legendary,we follow Tella trying to know Legend's name in order to gain information about their mother Paloma who disappear from their lives which turned their father into a vile man. Tella must find out Legend's true name for the person who was helping her asked preciously for this but there is more to that story. While Scarlet was always obsessed with Caraval and Legend,Tella had something else to be interested and worried at the same time. And soon another Caraval begins, only this time it becomes more deadly and dangerous.
Tella has to stop being reckless and start acting wise because unlike the last time Caraval was slowly beginning to a completely different turn of events than what she had expected.Stakes are high and so is the worth of winning the game.New characters with villainous motives are out play and will stop at nothing to take what belongs to them.
I really liked Scarlet in the first book but Tella, she outshone her ability to care for the people she love to a next level. Tella was strong and i loved her character development as we get to see another side of hers.I always thought that Scarlet was the one saving Donatellla from their despicable father and his punishments but Tella had always been trying to get help to her older sister and herself. She had a plan all along of escaping and when Legend replied to the letter it was as if her wishes were finally granted. Her relationship with Dante was heart warming.I HATED Dante in the Caraval but in this book.......well let's just say i jumped to not so good conclusions about him previously.Julian's charms were missing but that's completely alright considering this was about Tella and her part in the game. As for Legend......guess what???? WE FINALLY GET TO MEET HIM AT LAST AND IT WAS TOTALLY WORTH IT.I picked three characters who were under my radar for been Legend and that person was on the bottom of the list, the least expected. The moment he calls Donatella, i just knew that i will be wrong about my theory.
That cliffhanger at the end made things more interesting and i cannot wait to see what happens in Finale as the Caraval begins to take its final bow.
