Must read if you admire Oliver Sacks
19 June 2018
I purchased this book soon after it was published, and I must say I am ashamed to admit that I was vert judgmental and felt that Bill was trying to make hay while the Oliver Sacks elegies and dirges were being composed. However, after reading this, I was completely converted. Bill Hayes brought out another side to my hero that I never knew existed. Having read ALL of Sacks' work, as a physician, I felt extremely close to him, at least in thought. Reading Hayes' smoothly flowing book brought me closer to Sacks. It is a must read for all Sacksophiles. It brings out the gentle, soft, passionate love they shared - and having read about Sacks' tribulations about his sexual orientation, his family's response to it, and the life-long burden he seemed to have carried because of this, it felt like he found a solace, a haven in Hayes. A touching tribute to the great love of his life, Hayes brings our hero back to us with his utter honesty.
