Excellent Book! Visually Engaging, as expected of any DK Book, Highly Informative
13 September 2013
I desperately wanted to buy this book after I saw the preview pages. Well, I couldn't wait any longer, so placed the order. The book was delivered in 2 days, and just in time for a birding trip into the forest. I flipped through the pages quickly to find the information I was looking for, and guess what? I stopped on all the pages gathering information as I went along the way. Normally the phrase "hard to put down" is used to describe fiction. However, I'd like to use the same phrase for this book.
The information is laid out in an easy-to-understand format. Fantastic visuals greet you on every page. Example pictures give you an accurate idea of the concept under discussion. The author, Chris Gatcum, does an excellent job in reaching out to both amateurs and professionals alike, though primarily targeted at beginners.
There is a wealth of information waiting to be revealed in this book. I've read at least 30 other photography books and this rates among the top 5 books for me. The author introduces a photography concept, explains it in detail and gives you tips, techniques and tricks to make the best of the information you just gleaned.
There is a tiny section on image enhancement as well. Consider it a mini crash course.
Lots of step-by-step photography projects have been included. These alone will introduce you to all the basics, and some advanced concepts, you need to know on your photography expeditions.
This book will give you adequate information to get you off to a very good start, but it is not a theory lesson.
No matter where your photography knowledge stands this book will be found useful - as a guide for the beginners and a quick reference book for 'almost' professionals.
By the way, I used the tips I read from this book on my birding trip; and, I got excellent pictures of birds even in bad light! I'm very satisfied with the purchase.
