5.0 out of 5 starsExcellent book on persuasive techniques

Great book to learn persuasion techniques . It also tells how to defend us from people using such tricks for profit. It uses academic research as evidence to support its techniques. The vocabulary and sentence structure used in the book can be further simplified and made crisp.
Book content - excellent Paper quality - Very bad. It is equivalent to quality that is available on road side or some times on traffic signals at max. 100 Rs. Quality of paper must be improved, here paying extra in comparison to what is available on locations mentioned above. Book not worth amount paid.
Hands Down one of the best book on the topic of Influence ever written. I dont't need to review the book, as anyone who is interested in buying it already knows about it beforehand.
What I do need to write about is the Quality of the pages being used. Honestly, I still doubt if this book is original. Chances are that it MAY be a knockoff, not sure though. For the price that I bought this book, I am pretty much satisfied.
This book is a 'must read' for all. It makes us aware of how market forces often seduce us into buying things. From this book, we can also learn how to convince others of our ideas.
I had never thought that companies often advertise their certain products and then short-supply them. As a result, we often go to shops and buy something else of the same company. And then, eventually, after a few days, we end up buying that product which is often advertised. Thus, the companies sell more stuff and make more profit!
I remember the case of Cadbury Bubbly, a big choco- late. They began advertising it on TV. I went to at least 15 shops to buy it for my son who demanded it almost everyday. The newly launched chocolate was not available in any store, Eventually, I bought two chocolate bars instead of one to make him happy and promised him to buy Bubbly as and when it would become available. And, yes, I did buy the much advertised Bubbly later. Thus, instead of one, I ended up buying three chocolate bars!
I have also been a victim of 'lowballing' method. Once, I went to a goldsmith to get a gold ornament made. He gave an estimate of Rs. 32,000/--. I and other family members were happy that the ornament would be made at a good price. After it was ready, the man said the cost of making turned out to be high and now we would l have to shell out Rs. 38,000/--. By that time, we had started liking the design of the ornament so much that we happily paid the higher amount without any complaint!
The books also discusses how shopkeepers often show us expensive products first, and then the less expensive ones, which we readily buy because we feel we are not splurging! Or, it is often the case that we easily spend money on cheaper goods after buying something expensive.
I have seen this while buying a mobile phone. We buy a phone of Rs. 12000, and then buy its accessories (cover, screen guard, stickers, extra earplugs and so on). After spending on the main expensive product, we usually don't bargain for the smaller things. And, in fact, the shopkeepers make a lot selling those ordinary mobile back covers, often earning as much as 400% profit!
This and many other techniques are analysed in the book. Please read this book recommend it to others.
