" Verified by Charities Aid Foundation India Ashray Akruti is a registered, recognized, non-religious charitable organization working for hearing impaired children since 1996. Special Education and Rehabilitation Services are provided to 350 children from underprivileged backgrounds through three centers in Hyderabad. The organization also provides Vocational Training to the Hearing Impaired Youth to help them earn a decent livelihood and be productive citizens in the society.
The growth of the organization in the past 17 years has been remarkable; Ashray Akruti has scaled up from providing special education to 5 children to 450 children. It has encouraged nearly 200 children to take up mainstream education. This has resulted in empowering them and they are now able to compete with other children (non hearing impaired) and are doing well in their respective schools colleges and universities.
In the year 2010 a Multimedia computer animation training center was started for the Hearing Impaired youth to provide vocational training suitable to the modern day job market and to suit the abilities of hearing impaired persons. The first batch of 15 students trained at the center were successfully placed, all of them now earning a decent income. The second batch of 13 students were trained recently and all of them have been placed. The third batch has started recently.
The organization started two new special education and rehabilitation centres in Chandrayangutta and Yakutpura in Old City area of Hyderabad under the aegis of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan in December 2011. Ashray Akruti was one of the first NGOs to start special training centres for the children with hearing impairment in the area. Within a short span of time Ashray Akruti is catering to the educational needs 150 Hearing Impaired Children through the two centers. The students now attend school regularly and there is a visible improvement in their learning curve."
