The first question, is it possible to contain Hinduism in a few hundred pages? Of course not, so this book is not all that is Hinduism. Such a small book cannot be! Then what’s it about, maybe something related to weapons as the name suggests ? not at all! This has nothing to do with arms even. It’s a counter to the prevalent Hinduphobia that has slowly but surely gripped the so-called intellectual class.

The author categorically suggests that blaming the Muslims and Christians, who were of course plunderers who raided for wealth, only would not work. The evils that came into Hinduism with the advent of foreign rule have to be uprooted. When they say caste as soon as Hindu word is mentioned is also not very true. Yes, it is a big problem, but it prevails every religion so why just blame Hindus. Still, we Hindus do agree that it’s a problem for our society, when others deny it.

The author in the first half of the book counters the criticism in "several 'magisterial' books on Hinduism". He takes on Wendy Doniger who "characterizes herself as a lover of Hinduism and her critics as nasty, militant, prudish fundamentalists". He clearly states, “Standing up as Hindus is to stand up only for whatever goodness, kindness, wisdom, and love, for all beings, that our gods have stood for”. This is surely a good counter for the likes of Wendy Doniger who think the still shoulder the White Man’s Burden.

Despite its seemingly militant title, I would recommend it as a must-read for youngsters. Later when you have read much on Hinduism, from first-hand sources, you may find a few things detailed in this book as that of beginner’s level. For those who are in initial, formative years, it’s certainly a good read.
