The Jungle Radio: Bird Songs of India
When curious little Gul follows strange sounds coming from her radio set, she enters an Indian jungle and befriends some musicians.
|
|
|
---|---|---|
On her jungle walk, she finds that some birds sing, simply because they want to! Just like the three whistling birds singing tunes of their choice, in their honey-coated voice! |
Few little ones chirped chee-chee-cheerfully in their soft nasal voice 'chuck-chip-chuck-chreee' |
And some like the Black Drongo who even mimic sounds they find around them. With a 'kee' here and a 'kaw' there, Gul discovers song everywhere! |
|
|
|
---|---|---|
A few like the lonely Kingfisher, singing away his blues with a 'chuck-chuck-chuckle'! |
And there are others who chatter in noisy groups like the Jungle Babblers, flocked together on a giant tree. |
Discover all this and more when you tune into this adventure where Gul spends a day in the musical land, listening to the world around her! |

Apart from that, it's a lovely book. My 4 year old liked it.
What I liked about the Illustrations is that the the depiction of the birds has an artistic touch to them without in any way disturbing the original colours of their plumage. This not only makes it easy for kids to identify the birds as you go along reading, but also makes each page very attractive.
This book is a great way to introduce the world of birds to beginners and kids. Im sure the readers will love it.
🐦 The story is very simple and straightforward- no suspense and a feel good book.
🐦 I've become so much more knowledgeable after V, thanks to her books. I did not know the names of more than half the birds mentioned in the book, until I read it!
🐦 The whole book is written in beautiful rhyme and the bird calls are woven beautifully into the text making reading this book aloud such an enriching and fun experience 🐦 The sparkly illustrations stay with you for a long time after you've read it.
🐦 The index at the end of the book, that names all the birds mentioned, resources used to research makes one applaud the author's effort.
🐦 Lastly, V and I wondered why we dont hear these bird calls any more. All we know are the kaa-kaas.
Led us to an insightful conversation on depleting natural habitats and a promise to spot atleast one bird other than a crow on every walk.

Sadly kids nowadays are missing that, which in turn develops into being unsocial,no respect for nature or its bounty. But then there are creators like Devangana who can take something like bird watching and weave a wonderful narrative around it,full of vibrant drawings and hand drawn images of the Indian Bird Family. This book is not only engaging, but also gives the reader ample information about the winged members of the Indian Jungle turning it into a sweet soundig Radio show.Other than being a wonderful book,it is a fantastic gifting option, which will not only generate interest among the tiny readers, but also develop their curiosity for bird watching and nature in general.

To be honest I am so overwhelmed by the number of birds the author talks about in this book that I am introducing one bird at a time to my son .
The artwork is breathtaking and the description is extremely catchy. We are hooked on each bird for hours.
We totally loved it and I am ordering few more copies for gifting :)
