Great Blu-ray for a not-so-great Movie
23 April 2018
The Mummy (2017) is not a terrible movie by any means but neither a good one at that. What makes it watchable is a dumb behaving Tom Cruise, some great action sequences and an awesome, awesome looking Sofia Boutella. Her mere appearance in this movie makes it worth every penny. Also the Blu-ray transfer is top notch making it a rather enjoyable feast.
The steelbook edition comes with both the 2D and the 3D editions and is a much better option since the regular Blu-ray is available at near about the same price at Amazon.
Picture quality -
The film is primarily shot in dark conditions and the Blu-ray faithfully reproduces what the director wanted us to see. Sharpness is excellent and colours, whatever is thrown at the screen, also appear good. It's a great looking Blu-ray disc.
Audio quality -
Highlight of the disc. The audio on this disc is masterful. The Dolby Atmos (7.1 core) track plays with superb surround activity along with an excellent front sound stage. The vocals deserve special mention here. You feel like you are watching it in an actual theater. It's that good. It's packed with massive heft and punchy bass. Powerful reference track all the way.
