Objective analysis of an important political career
26 November 2017
Published in 2013, and written after Modi's 2012 election victory in Gujarat, I read it only in 2017, and was surprised by the sheer number of astute observations Mukhopadhyay makes about a Modi premiership that was still in the future. Very worthwhile read for anyone who wants a peek into Narendra Modi's cryptic psyche. Mukhopadhyay gleans insights, and pries out details with precision. He makes a conscious effort to be objective about his controversial subject. Covers Modi's entire political career till time of publication, and goes into unflinching detail regarding regarding all the intrigue and skulduggery, mining them to understand formative influences. Anybody interested in Indian politics (particularly within the Sangh Parivar spectrum) should find this an interesting read. That said, editing is shoddy in places, and betrays a rush-job by whoever was in charge, although it shouldn't cause the reader too much trouble.
