Before pick up this book, I want to suggest that this book is for people who are interested to know about the geisha culture that existed during 1930-40, world war time in Japan when country under turmoil. A girl from obscure village has been sold to geisha a home in kyoto, starts life with very difficult circumstances with a hostile environment and daily embarssing situations. Destiny finds its way to the girl in the form of another very successful giisha who accepts her as younger sister with that small girl starts the training of geish in traditional way. Learning music, dance, kimino dressing and tea ceremony which are part of geish culture. From this book reader will experience the real culture of Japan, and people entertainment, partying of rich folk during those times. Sarayu, the small girl becomes a young geisha, whose virginty was auctioned for highest bidder , a successful doctor who was very fond of that pays big some to have her, that way being got highest amount for her, she commands lot of respect from that day in her geish home, treated with all comforts & respect.even after becoming successful geisha in Kyoto, she craves for real love of a chairman, whom she meets when she was a very young girl before becoming geisha, he becomes her passion & inspiration and longing to have his company & love all the time. when her first danna, general in japan army lost his position, she was chosen by nobu, a crippled & ugly looking person who is powerful & generous helped her to have shelter during war time at his friends place as a safe custody. She is tormented to imagine him as his Danna, but try to cheat on him playing some foul trick to make him loathe her, so that she can reach her long cherished dream of chairman having her Danna or love. She was shocked when destiny had knocked thedoors to reach her final passion of life chairman, she had best days of her life, with him and settled in US and set up tea House there for Japanese friends. This is real story of unnoticed small girl becoming a successful geisha, who has seen lows and ups of life, totmentd by emotions of life, love, betrayal as a child, finally lives a peaceful life at the end.but its about a real life story about sayuri, who protrayed her life story to the author, most of the time this story seems to be real but some time I had feeling that some real facts were hidden from this book. Need to have patience and passion to know about geisha culture before buying this book.

First of all, the book arrived in good condition.
Now, the book is amazing. The movie adaptation is nothing compared to it. I love the way Sayuri takes the journey and earned my respect. The only disappointment is that it's a work of fiction. However, everything about it reflects the exact way a geisha lives her life. One must definitely read it and clear all the doubts and misconceptions of a geisha. It's a great book. I personally love it.
