This story is narrated by 84 yo Maurice Hannigan as a sort of round up of the most important people and events of his long life. Starting with the older brother who protected him, he recounts his difficult childhood and all its trials. Moving onto adulthood he recalls his wife's troubled sister who had a profound impact in his life. His stillborn daughter, son based in a faraway land and his late wife form the other three people who play main roles in his memories. A well told story, reminiscing ups, downs, feelings of guilt and regrets for actions taken and not taken, this was a good read.
