Connect Your Echo Device to Wi-Fi

Your Echo device requires an active Wi-Fi connection to answer questions, process your commands, and stream media.

Echo devices connect to dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz / 5 GHz) networks that use the 802.11a / b / g / n standard. Echo devices can't connect to ad-hoc (or peer-to-peer) networks.

To connect Echo devices without a screen to Wi-Fi, in the Alexa app:

  1. From the menu, select Settings.
  2. Select Device Settings.
  3. Select your device.
  4. Select Change next to Wi-Fi Network and follow the instructions in the app.

To connect Echo devices with a screen to Wi-Fi, do not use the Alexa app. Instead:

  1. Say, "Go to settings." Or, swipe down from the top of the device's screen and select Settings.
  2. Select Network.
  3. Select the network you want to connect to and follow the prompts on the screen.
If you don't see your network listed, scroll down to find advanced Wi-Fi options.

Select your Wi-Fi network and enter the network password (if needed). If you don't see your Wi-Fi network, scroll down and select Add a Network (for hidden networks) or Rescan.
