Using Accessibility Features on Echo Devices with a Screen

On compatible Echo devices, you can enable accessibility features designed for those with vision or hearing impairments.

Important: Accessibility features are designed for users with vision or hearing impairments. When you turn on an accessibility feature, your device functions differently (such as different gestures for navigation). If your device isn't responding to your touch or you hear a voice whenever you touch the screen, you may have turned on the VoiceView Screen Reader.

Use one of the following methods to toggle VoiceView:

  • Turn On: Press and hold the Mic/Camera button. When you hear an alert, place two fingers (slightly apart) on the screen and hold for 5 s.
  • Turn Off: Press and hold the Mic/Camera button. When you hear an alert, use a single finger to double tap the screen and hold for 5 s.
    • Echo Spot and Echo Show (2nd Generation): When facing the screen, the Mic/Camera button is in the middle on top of the device.
  • Say, "Go to Settings," or swipe down from the top of the screen and select Settings. Select Accessibility, then VoiceView Screen Reader, and select VoiceView.
