As per RBI regulations, any entity can only disburse loans up to Rs. 60,000 in a year to the person who registered through Aadhaar-OTP based KYC process.
From Amazon's perspective, any successful order placed using Amazon Pay Later limit, irrespective of whether it got returned, cancelled or rejected by the customer, is counted as the instance of loan disbursal and that order's value gets counted towards the RBI limit of Rs. 60,000.
Available Regulatory limit (T) | Rs.60000 |
Transaction A | Rs.10000 |
Transaction B | Rs.15000 |
Transaction C | Rs.10000 |
Repayment transaction (R) | Rs.5000 |
Usable Limit (T- (A+B+C))** | Rs.25000 |
Total Available Limit (T- (A+B+C)) + R | Rs.30000 |
**Irrespective of the Repayment transaction (R), the Usable Limit would be Rs.25000, as the remaining amount has already been dispersed as loan.
Now, whenever customer's Usable Limit goes below the Available Limit, we show a message to the customer on Amazon Pay Later dashboard stating "Your Usable limit is Rs. XYZ. Know more".

If the Amazon Pay cashback is already credited to your account, on returning the item, the amount of refund processed will be the Total Order Value minus the Cashback Value added in your account. This essentially means that you received the refund in two parts (i) Cashback value in Amazon Pay balance (ii) and remaining value as deduction in utilized limit of Amazon Pay Later
In this case, since full amount is not refunded from your Amazon Pay Later limit, the differential value (which is the value of your cashback) is still utilized from your Amazon Pay Later, for which you have to pay EMI payments. We will convert this remaining value in the EMI plan of same tenure (as that of your order). EMIs will definitely be lower as total amount to be paid is lesser.
This new EMI plan (pertaining to cashback value) will be reflected in your Amazon Pay Later Dashboard in "Total Outstanding Amount payable" & "Utilized Limit".
Total Order Value (T) | Rs.10000 |
Amazon Pay Later limit utilized | Rs.10000 |
Original EMI Tenure selected | 6 months |
Cashback value (C) | Rs.1000 |
Refund value (T-C) | Rs.9000 |
Total Order Value (T) | Rs.10000 |
Amazon Pay Later limit utilized | Rs.10000 |
Original EMI Tenure selected | 6 months |
Cashback value (C) | Rs.1000 |
Refund value (T-C) | Rs.9000 |
