The states of Maharashtra, Kerala and Karnataka are experiencing heavy rainfall resulting in a flood-like situation, which is expected to intensify in the coming days. In Maharashtra, the districts of Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur are worst affected, and Pune is also in the high alert zone, with evacuations being carried out. In Kerala, nine districts, including Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Wayanad, have been heavily impacted. In Karnataka the rains have affected 16 districts, the worst-affected districts include Bagalkot, Vijayapura, Raichur, Yadgiri, Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, Shivamogga, Kodagu and Chikkamagalur. Based on the on-ground assessment done by some of our NGO partners, around 4 lakh people have been evacuated from the affected districts and are taking shelter in more than 500 designated relief camps operated by the government. So far, 100 people have lost their lives in both states.
