Amazon.in to plant over 12,000 trees across the country to celebrate World Environment Week 2017

Rolls out a massive environmental awareness and protection campaign across Fulfilment Centres, Sortation Centres and Delivery Stations in 13 Indian States

Bengaluru, June 07, 2017: In line with its constant efforts to conserve the ecosystem it operates in, India’s largest online marketplace, Amazon.in, rolled out a massive campaign across cities to celebrate World Environment Week 2017. Under the campaign, Amazon.in is conducting various campaigns and activities between June 05th – June 12th, 2017 to create awareness on environment conservation across all its 41 Fulfilment Centres (FCs), Sortation Centres and Delivery Stations and would plant over 12,000 trees across the country.

As part of the campaign, Amazon.in will be educating employees and associates on critical measures such as energy saving, food waste management, water conservation, environmental awareness and paper management to name a few. Apart from this, vehicles of all employees and associates at Amazon’s Fulfilment Centres will be checked for PUC, saplings will be given to all employees, benefits of carpooling will be explained and sites will be audited for water management. The company will also expand this campaign to cover villages around their Fulfilment Centres through skits, poster making competitions and fun games.

Sharing his views on the campaign, Mr. Akhil Saxena, Vice President, India Customer Fulfilment, Amazon India, said, “To drive consciousness of the environment and foster a culture of collective responsibility towards our ecosystem, we have launched a week-long environment campaign at our Fulfilment Centres, Sortation Centres, Delivery Stations and Community Centres. We are planting over 12,000 saplings across these locations and are ensuring adoption of eco-friendly measures in everyday operations for a greener and healthier India. At Amazon.in, we are truly committed towards protecting the ecosystem we operate in and will continue to spread environmental awareness by ascertaining ways of efficient usage of our resources.”

Right from sensitizing all its employees and associates on saving energy by activating sleep mode of PCs, Laptops, Conveyor Belts, ACs, Fans when non-operational, to weighing waste food and displaying it in its canteens to prevent food wastage, Amazon.in has gone all out to support environment preservation. The online marketplace is also conducting educational sessions by organizing slogan, essay writing and drawing competitions across government schools to educate children and inculcating environment-friendly habits in them at a young age. These would be conducted in Bhiwandi (Maharashtra), Sonipat & Tauru (Haryana), New Delhi, Ludhiana (Punjab), Hyderabad (Telangana), Chennai (Tamil Nadu) and Bengaluru (Karnataka).
