About GYWS
Gopali Youth Welfare Society (GYWS) is a non-profit NGO run by the students of IIT Kharagpur, along with the help of local social enthusiasts. They aim to improve the living standards of people of the village Gopali (in proximity to the IIT campus), and tackling social, economic and educational problems faced by them. The society is registered under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act, 1961 since 2004, and all donations to the society are exempted from tax under Section 80G of Income Tax Act and FCRA.

With the twin objectives of making the youth and society aware and of ensuring socio-economic welfare for underprivileged and weaker sections of the society, various projects are being successfully run by the society and have proven to be milestones in bringing the change. The society is trying to help women, children and aged people through basic sustainable guidance and management infrastructures. Projects like e-Samadhan, Child Rights protection and rehabilitation and Prayas are playing an important role in improving socio-economic grounds. KGP BloodConnect and Paksha have marked active presence of the organisation in grounds of medical awareness. The major initiative of the society is Jagriti Vidya Mandir (JVM) providing free of cost English medium education to children from weak financial backgrounds.
