Product Description

On one of the explorer’s field visit, we met a traditional yet progressive beekeeper, Lection Nongrum, from Umdihar, Lumsohmylleng village, Meghalaya. Something in him sparked our interest and we stayed longer to have a conversation with him. He started traditional beekeeping in 2004, with just one bee's nest at the time. Now he has an amazing number. Now he has an amazing number. More than 300 traditional bee's nest. He learned the art of beekeeping from his eldest son! His son’s passion for beekeeping inspired him. He started making bee's nest with wood logs cut from trees. He harvests multi-floral honey., Tthe bees collect pollen and nectar from flowers in the surrounding areas. Zizira believes in continuing this tradition of bee-keeping and we do this by partnering with loyal farmers like him. Because of these successful partnerships, today you can buy the best honey from Meghalaya.

Vision of Zizira

Our vision is to pioneer the development of natural products, proving the underutilized potential of the region’s produce in a way that sparks a movement.

Traditional Beekeeping

We call our honey, the heritage honey from Meghalaya! Our range of honey is made of sun-soaked pollen and nectar of natural flowers surrounding the environment around the bee's nest. As we source them from traditional beekeepers who have been preserving this tradition from generations of improved traditional practices. These bee keepers follow the age-old practice of speaking to the bees with respect before they collect honey from the bee's nest. They respect mother nature. Here is something they would say, “I am taking care of you and you should not be angry at me. I need to take out honey for helping feed my family.” These beekeepers also plant flowers that the bees love to feed on.

Directly from the Bee Hive

Beekeepers in Meghalaya used both traditional and modern forms of bee's nest. The beekeepers source honey from wood logs in the forest where bees form hives naturally. Beekeepers also plant flowers and flowering trees around the surrounding areas. to make it easier for the bees to collect nectar and pollen. Once it’s harvest season, they collect it directly from the nest and store it. We then source directly from them without any form of process involved. Our honey is RAW! It is unheated, unpasteurized and unprocessed. It is exceptionally rich in nutritional value. Our raw honey is not altered for commercial purpose but is sold in its original form.

Describe your products in three words.

Natural. Quality-driven. Regenerative.

How did you come up with the idea for this product?

The rich, pristine land of Meghalaya is bursting with agricultural and horticultural potential. The air is pure and water abundant and the land fertile, where diverse crops can grow. Over 80% of the population depends on farming for livelihood. But, we could see that the hard-working farmers were struggling. One reason is that Northeast India remains remote and isolated. Zizira was started with the vision of making a difference to the farmers of NE India by opening markets for their produce. How? By creating unique products using the high-value plants of this region and promoting them through robust eCommerce platforms.

What makes your product special?

Our products are hand-crafted, in small batches. The quality and the uniqueness of the produce from this region add value to our products. We know the source. The main agricultural ingredients that go into each of our products are procured directly from farmers we have met and built a relationship with. And, most of them follow natural farming methods. The processing and packaging are done with care. We consider the environment and delivery quality.

What has been the best part of your experience?

It is humbling to see how our products are finding acceptance in the market. User feedback is what pushes us to keep innovating. When we started, we were no experts in the food sector! But, had total trust in the potential of this region and in the hard-working farmers. It was (and is) not easy. Yes, we had faith in the leaders we had built from within our parent company, Chillibreeze Solutions Pvt. Ltd. We continue to learn about the medicinal treasures and plant power of our land. Each field visit interaction with experts, and farmer partnerships help us create unique products for our customers. The more we sell the more we learn from YOU, our dear customer. Every review we receive means a lot to us. In fact, we were featured in an Amazon video! Still, miles to go before we make a noticeable difference to our region of Northeast of India and its farmers. We are on the job!
