Product description

Review

It is with an unusual elegance that Shama Naqushbandi weaves together the two parts of herself in this very autobiographical, and powerfully personal first novel. Just as the Kashmiri pashmina weavers create the most exquisite shawls in the world, she threads together the two sides of herself, Kashmiri blood, English-raised, into this delicate tale of rootlessness and belonging. --Justine Hardy

About the Author

Shama Naqushbandi was born in London in 1983 to parents of Kashmiri heritage. After graduating from Clare College, Cambridge University, she joined one of the world s premier international law firms and has since been working in the city. In the summer of 2011, Shama took a six-month sabbatical to write The White House. The White House is her first book and won Best Unpublished Novel in the Brit Writers Awards. The title of the book was inspired by the name of Shama s grandparents home in Kashmir, which she used to visit as a child before the conflict began. The house was eventually pulled down.
