Description for Wheelchair Cushion Water Or Gel - Gel Cushion, 18' X 16 1/2'
Designed to fit most standard wheelchairs. Cushions helps provide optimal pressure relief and comfort for all-day sitting. Gel cushion helps give patients an especially stable feeling, because the gel is similar to a patient's adipose tissue (fat layers).Gel is very thick, so it helps minimizes leakage, even if the cushion is punctured.

Has anyone used water only in the cushion? I thought I might try it with water only. I don't have anymore gel solution on hand. I noticed that they say on the back of the cushion, a stock number for the "Water Cushion". I searched it here, and there is a water only cushion. I can't imagine that putting water only in this would hurt but if anyone knows if there is a reason not to, or if the "Water" cushion is better, could you please let me know? Thanks!- January 5th.
I'm down to 95 pounds, and no medical tests have helped to find a reason for the weight loss, not even cancer testing. I still love this cushion, and I also use the Roho air cushion and the Roho mattress overlay to sleep on, which I highly, highly recommend
Update 2: Now I know how much this cushion is helping me. I had to make a trip to the doctor today. The chairs, stool and table were hard. Sitting on them ruined my back and hip/leg area for the day. Oh the pain is back! I haven't had this one day since I have been using this cushion. It's a relief just to be home and use it, but I know now that when I use it I don't get the excruciating pain that I get from sitting without it at home or while I'm out. I'll have to bring it with me. 5 stars
*Update After sitting, I do not have the bone crushing pain, muscle and skin pain that I'd had prior to using this cushion. No matter what I sat on prior to this, I had pain not only while sitting, but when I was not sitting, and trying to sleep. The pain was excruciating. This is the least amount of pain I've had anywhere, including standing. My weight automatically makes it painful to sit for too long or on something hard. I'm giving this 5 stars I'm so pleased. This has given me great relief from the horrible pain I am in, so far.
It's interesting. It's very comfortable. I followed the directions and I added the small 35gr. pack that I purchased to thicken the gel. I have RA and this was not hard for me to handle. It's not too heavy. The first thing that made me happy is that it does not slip in the different chairs that I've tried it in while it's untied.
It's comfortable to sit on. I've been in such pain when I've had to sit for over a month. I'm also very slender at 5'3" tall and 103 pounds, ( now 95 pounds - January) It's very hard to lay or sit at any time not weighing more than I do. Laying with supports for my injury, ( now I have to use a Roho mattress overlay) and sitting have left me with so much pain. It has hurt badly to sit for more than a few minutes. It's interesting, when I got up and moved, the excruciating pain I'd felt in my rear end and thighs/legs was not better.
I wanted to write this for anyone who might be experiencing similar problems and might be looking for something, anything to make sitting more comfortable. I think it's worth a shot.
Three points to address in some confusing reviews I've read. First, you fill this thing with water, not air. You don't want air in it. Second, go ahead and follow the badly-written package instructions the first time. May have to use a funnel. I think we did. The point is, you'll hold it up and it will seem half full and half flat. That's normal. Sitting on it changes that, as it conforms to your comfort. You may have to tweak it. I got lucky. The first time was perfect. It's only now, after two years, it's going a bit flat. I'm going to add more water, and order some of the snowflake stuff advertised at the top under the picture, but if it doesn't work, I want another on the way.
Yes, it's a bit large. That's okay for me. It just sticks out the open sides of my chair under the arms. As for the edge-to-back dimensions, it fits fine.
Last but not least, since I can't find any mention of it. I think this thing would be great for an accident victim who's been burned. No, it's not like ice. But it does have an incredible quality of staying cool, very cool. Don't know why. In fact, I cut a small piece of blanket I generally keep on top of mine, since it's a little too cool for my taste. Does that sound like a lot of trouble? You won't think so if you sit on it. It is not easy to describe, unlike any other surface. I guess the closest metaphor I can think of is jello, but still not a perfect one. For this price, if you're in misery in your chair, give it a shot. Hope it helps you as much as it did me.
First, to answer several questions. While waiting for my new one, I tried just putting more water in the old one, without ordering more of the gel flakes. Thought at first it might work, but it doesn't. Is it a terrible cushion? No, but it just doesn't have the magic of the gel stuff. It doesn't give me the same support and comfort. That's why the water cushion I ordered got tossed.
Second, mass of confusion here. When I ordered this a couple years ago, all we got was the cushion and a connector that didn't work on our sink. The one they have now is better; at least it can be used like a funnel. Anyway, it was pre-loaded with the gel stuff (think it's call sodium polyacrylate). We just filled it. My husband swears it feels like there's stuff in there. He's going out of town tomorrow, so he wanted to get it right. The problem is, unlike the last time, it came with a closed silver bag of the gel stuff, leading me to believe it had to be added, as well, along with the water. It takes awhile (several hours, I think) for it to turn super gel, for the stuff to absorb 300 times its weight in water. The thing is, giving away freebies of additional gel just doesn't sound very Chinese. No offense. Not the kind of thing they do. I'll wait it out, and if by morning it just doesn't feel like the old one, and I have to figure out the mess of opening it again and adding the stuff, I'll put an update to that effect. Meanwhile, looks like I got extra this time for a couple years from now when it loses its oomph.
