I've been saving my hard earned money for quite some time to get a MacBook Pro m1 for my creative needs. But a decent configuration (512gb ssd & 16gb ram) shot up the price beyond my budget. That is when I decided to look for a windows laptop. After hundreds and thousands of reviews, I came across this gem!
AMD Ryzen 9 5900hx, 1Tb pcie 3.0 nvme ssd, 16gb LDDR4 ram and nvidia 3050ti(50w)- I just hit the sweet spot for my editing and casual gaming plus some office productivity needs. All this for a price that was mouth watering for a tight budgeted customer like me.
Build quality is 4/5. The underside of the laptop feels a bit thin and of lower quality when compared to the lid and keyboard parts where the finish is top notch. Don't expect a zenbook/surface/xps level finish, but know that this is well made to house a well enough configuration within a 1.45kg form factor. Portability was key for me and there were no other laptops with discrete gpus below 1.5kgs.
Windows 11 comes pre installed along with office 2021. Only excel, word and PowerPoint have lifetime validity. Other office apps require a separate purchase. For example, I was not able to use outlook as it required a separate purchase from the Microsoft store worth thousands of Indian rupees. McAfee comes pre-installed with 1 year validity but everyone knows windows defender is far better from a resource hungry perspective. One month Xbox game pass and Adobe creative cloud trial are also included if you want to try that.
I genuinely didn't get much time to test the batteries out, but I'm not expecting much there. Sound quality is sub par. On the other hand, display quality is on another level! QHD 90hz 600nits 100% gamut OLED!!
Laptop runs very quiet, you seldom hear the fans out. Temperatures are minimal under normal load but picks up ones you move into heavy apps.
Cons:
The graphics card on this unit could have been more capable if Asus did not cap it at 50w. Other manufacturers have the same card at 85w or 110w or even 135w!
The unit that I got had a track pad wobble which is one of the most common issues when you buy a new laptop anywhere in the world. It doesn't affect me much but keep that in mind and have it checked first hand if you ever buy one.
No usb gen 2 c port (the laptop has got only gen 1 usb c port), meaning you can connect any device using usb c cable but can't charge your laptop using a usb c cable. There's no hdmi 2.0 port. It has only hdmi 1.4, which is bit outdated now.
Heads up: 2022 laptop lineups refreshes are coming out with these new ports as well as 4.0 nvme ssds, ryzen 6000series cpus (much more energy efficient) and lddr5 rams.
