I can honestly say that this book is one of the best, well-written and gripping true stories I've ever read" -- (RJ Parker)

"Author JT Hunter does a marvelous job of telling the frightening true tale of John Brennan Crutchley. Wonderfully researched and meticulously written, Hunter takes the reader behind the scenes into the criminal investigation with detectives, and later in the courtroom. He tells the incredible story of the serial predator's one surviving victim, and examines the psychopathic mind of Crutchley himself. This is a great debut book from JT Hunter. Well done!" --Dr. Scott Bonn author of Why We Love Serial Killers

Product Description

From #1 bestselling Author of 'Devil In The Darkness' and 'The Country Boy Killer'

While he stalked the streets hunting his unsuspecting victims, the residents of a quiet Florida town slept soundly, oblivious to the dark creature in their midst, unaware of the vampire next door.
John Crutchley seemed to be living the American Dream. Good-looking and blessed with a genius level IQ, he had a prestigious, white-collar job at a prominent government defense contractor, where he held top secret security clearance and handled projects for NASA and the Pentagon. To all outward appearances, he was a hard-working, successful family man with a lavish new house, a devoted wife, and a healthy young son.

But, he concealed a hidden side of his personality, a dark secret tied to a hunger for blood and the overriding need to kill. As one of the most prolific serial killers in American history, Crutchley committed at least twelve murders, and possibly nearly three dozen. His IQ ellipsis that of Ted Bundy, and his body count may have as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Vampire Next Door 14 October 2014
By Jenn - Published on Amazon.com

This true crime novel is extremely well written and has wonderful flow that keeps you turning the pages.
I have read a little about his human monster before but I did not realize the extent of his horror and the pain he caused and for how long until I read this. The author not just gives you the timeline of
John Brennan Crutchley, but also gives you the events that happened in the world while his investigation and trials were going on.
Great read for any true crime fan out there.

1.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating story but horribly written 30 March 2016

I appreciate the author's attempt to contextualize the events of the book, but it felt planted and disjointed, like they were looking for filler.
3.0 out of 5 stars The writing leaves a lot to be desired. 7 June 2016

I would like to give this book a higher l rating, but the writing is quite poor...amateurish, ridden with cliches, awkward phrasing and a less-than-stellar command of the language. It definitely could have used more extensive editing. At one point I almost decided not to finish the book because I found the writing style so clumsy in places as to detract from the impact of the narrative. However, I want to add that the authors did an excellent job with the plotting, chronology and overall reporting of this extremely complicated, fascinating and horribly tragic case of serial murder.

4.0 out of 5 stars The vampire next door 27 July 2016
By Iman Bibars - Published on Amazon.com

This is one of the best written books by the author. I especially loved the first half. My only criticism is that he cited too many similar media and newspapers articles about the vampire rapist and repeated identical analysis of the serial killer. It felt redundant It bored me and disconnected me from the story. The fist half of the book was superb.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reads like a novel. Frightens like the truth. 21 February 2015
By Linda Washburn - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
This is one of the two most well written true crime books I have ever read (and I've read a lot). It reads like a novel but worse because it's real. The time line is easy to follow, the people are 3 demensional, and the plot follows a storyline. These are the things that make a good horror story so readable and memorable, but the thing that will really keep you awake at night is the fact that this one is true.
