Urma's story brings to life the beauty of the Iranian countryside. It never occurred to me that Iran had snow-covered mountains, lakes, trees, vacation spots and normal life. Yet this normal life that Urma remembers has changed severely since she fled as a college student in 1979. Her heart wants that place to remain as it was, to go back there and have a "do-over," but everyone who reaches adulthood knows you can never go home again.
Professionally she is successful, but she yearns for more. With stolid friends at her side, Urma finds the key to happiness while sharing with us her rocky journey from her happy college days, through the revolution's upheaval, a marriage that was less than happy, grief, passion, fame, and love.
I thoroughly enjoyed learning about another culture while enjoying this woman's journey toward peace. Ms. Irfan has educated while entertaining--the ultimate goal of any book!
