Description for Truffles: Earth's Black Gold
The Romans believed [truffles] were created where lightning struck the earth. Churchill and Napoleon, among many others, were devotees. Other fans, or keen cooks, will want this large-format, lavishly illustrated book, which offers the last word on all things truffle; from the mysteries of the tubers' existence and where and how to buy them, to the many varieties available and the fun to be had hunting for them in France, Italy and elsewhere. The last third of the book is devoted to recipes.-- (11/23/2009)

It's bad news if your bank balance is running low but good news if you have a few bucks to spend as Truffles (Firefly Books) is your kind of book; if you see it, you will want it.
Truffles 176 pages decode the mysteries of the uber tuber, featuring an extensive definition, offering the details on its many varietals, showcasing the way different countries hunt for the gems, pairing wine and sharing the sophisticated recipes of several Three-Star Michelin chefs...
All of this is detailed with photography so delightful, you'll be torn between keeping this book in the kitchen or on the coffee table.
At $34.96 Truffles Earth's Black Diamonds is a bit on the spendy side, but, if you need your juicy cookbook fix, you're in for a treat.
