It is built extremely well and I feel that it's dust/shock resistance is a real statement to it's build quality - I believe it after dropping my keys with this thing attached quite a few times. Nothing seems cheap about the construction, considering the price, however the laser-etched logo on one side is a tad blurry, not that you want to be staring at a logo while using it. It serves its purpose as branding and if this is what helps keeps a great product like this stay cheap, by all means, keep doing it. Faster read/write performance would be a key area of interest for me.
Cons: Now to a negative, and the only negative: it's keychain functionality. Unless you have a perfect circle (and I DON'T mean the keychain's loop that from its construction, I mean the actual width of metal going through the loop of the USB drive), it stands up right and will not move unless you move it to a thinner part of the ring. It can make for uncomfortable juggling your keys in your pocket, as well as sometimes even making it difficult to grab one of the keys themselves. This isn't a deal breaker for me, because having storage on you at all times is useful. I just wish there was more real estate for keychain rings to move around without a secondary, smaller key ring to remove the problem.
Added is a photo for scale.
See the picture I posted for benchmarked speeds. Actual practical windows speeds were within a small margin off from those.
I give the drive 5 stars for the value and size.
I am not affiliated with Transcend, these are my own opinions.
I put the JetFlash through its paces and this is the fastest flash drive I've owned. It's my first USB 3 stick but it certainly buries my old SanDisk 2.0 and LaCie 2.0 sticks, feeling more like a SSD than a flash drive when copying RAW image files and video from my iMac's USB 3 port. It mounts and dismounts lickety-split.
The gotcha is it gets hot when mounted in my iMac or a USB 3 hub. I don't recommend leaving it mounted for extended lengths of time: upload/download and pull. I use it in a Dyconn hub with on-off switch, switching it off when finished. My other flash drives get slightly warm but never hot. I suspect the tiny size isn't as efficient at dissipating heat as larger designs.
There is a lot to like about the JetFlash: tough, tiny, cute as a button and blazing fast. I dislike that it runs hot. Nevertheless the JetFlash is my main carry and holds and transfers my files like a champ.
02/15/2015 UPDATE: It's been about 18 months and still going strong. I recently found out, although it runs hot un USB3 hubs, it's merely lukewarm in USB2 hubs.
10/10 would buy again.
EDIT: Almost half a year later, the drive stopped being detected. Tried multiples means of fixing it, but to no avail. At least it was great while it lasted.
