Description for Traces Of You
The singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist, Anoushka Shankar is back to woo us with her exceptional talents in her seventh studio album, Traces of You which was released on October 4, 2013. It is produced by the multi-award winning, London-based British Indian producer Nitin Sawhney and features Anoushka's half-sister, Norah Jones in three tracks.
About the album, it is given in Anoushka's official site that, "Traces of You goes beyond resolving music-related dilemmas. The direction of the initial – and solely musical – exploration was inspired by the idea that everything in the universe leaves an indelible mark or a subtle "trace".
The first track, "The Sun Won't Set," is a soothing melody of sitar and guitar blended with Norah Jones' soft vocals. Anoushka says of the song, "My father's first name, Ravi, means "sun" in Sanskrit. In the months before he passed away, this song was a way for me to express my unwillingness to let him go".
The next track, "Flight," is a peaceful tune that will mend a heart or celebrate with a happy heart. Put it on play on your next weekend getaway, amidst the woods and get lost in between the notes of the sitar strings.
The third track, "Indian Summer," written by Anoushka Shankar and Nitin Sawhney is in remembrance of how Anoushka and her husband first met. It was in 2009 while he was researching a film called, "Indian Summer," and though the film didn't come to place, they did and this track is a dedication to it.
The fifth track also written by Anoushka is called "Laysa," which is the name given for the Hindu goddess, Parvati's cosmic dance where she dances with tenderness and grace in response to the fierce and masculine Tandava dance by Shiva. It circles around the theme of a balance between men and women's power.
After seven more of swaying tunes, the album ends with "Unsaid," written by Anoushka Shankar and Norah Jones. It has Ian Burdge on the cello, Anoushka on sitar and Norah on the piano. A melancholy number made even more enchanting with Norah's heavenly voice.
