I would be the first to admit, Toshiba could assign an engineer or two to making it a tad easier to remove the back cover. Having accepted that, it's still 30 seconds more or less, and the new battery is in and I'm good for another 4 or 5 hours. These seem to recharge close to 100 % in less than 2 hours. Strong plus for Toshiba.
The battery being flat makes it a natural to slide in the sidepocket of the CaseCrown Faux Suede Zip Sleeve Case for Toshiba Thrive Tablet, which I also love. About $6 on Amazon ?? At least it was.
Toshiba could solve a couple of problems by making the tablet chargeable in a car or by one of the battery packs via USB cable. Til then, this is a reasonable alternative.
Probably wont be long before the non-oem battery makers come to market with this at an attractive price.
That decision paid off when I had to travel to Australia recently and dreaded having my tablet run out of juice in the middle of a 15-hour flight, after first flying 6 1/2 hours before boarding the 15 hours from LAX to Sydney.
A week or so before I left, I ordered a 2nd battery to take along, and made sure it had a full charge before leaving for the airport. After hours of reading and watching movies on the tablet, I was eventually down to about about 15% and swapped out the batteries before starting a new movie. I was surprised to find that even after sitting in my bag for over 24 hours, the battery still was at 100%.
So yeah...five stars to this battery for long running time AND for long charge holding time while not installed.
Unfortunately, this battery seems to have the average life expectancy and was produced around the same time as the thrive itself, on top of not being charged on occasions to preserve its lifespan. It arrived with a zero charge reading I can only imagine it's been sitting at for months, which significantly hurts these batteries. The end result is a battery that's only a little better than the one I bought it to replace, and I don't know how longer it will be before it's just as bad as the old one. I could just carry the old one around and switch it out on the go, but it's not easy to get that battery plate off and some vital components seem to be exposed when it's removed, so Id rather just take the power cord with me.
