From the Publisher
Hello, boys and girls. Hannah Baker here. Live and in stereo.
I don’t believe it.
No return engagements. No encore. And this time, absolutely no requests.
No, I can’t believe it. Hannah Baker killed herself.
I hope you’re ready, because I’m about to tell you the story of my life. More specifically, why my life ended. And if you’re listening to these tapes, you’re one of the reasons why.
I’m not saying which tape brings you into the story. But fear not, if you received this lovely little box, your name will pop up. I promise.
Thirteen Reasons Why (Spinebreakers)
A shoebox-sized package is propped against the front door at an angle. Our front door has a tiny slot to shove mail through, but anything thicker than a bar of soap gets left outside. A hurried scribble on the wrapping addresses the package to Clay Jensen, so I pick it up and head inside.
I take the package into the kitchen and set it on the counter. I slide open the junk drawer and pull out a pair of scissors. Then I run a scissor blade around the package and lift off its top. Inside the shoebox is a rolled-up tube of bubble-wrap. I unroll that and discover seven loose audiotapes.
Each tape has a dark blue number painted in the upper right-hand corner, possibly with nail polish. Each side has its own number. One and two on the first tape, three and four on the next, five and six, and so on. The last tape has a thirteen on one side, but nothing on the back.
Who would send me a shoebox full of audiotapes? No one listens to tapes any more. Do I even have a way to play them?
The garage! The stereo on the workbench. My dad bought it at a yard sale for almost nothing. It’s old, so he doesn’t care if it gets coated with sawdust or splattered with paint. And best of all, it plays tapes.
I drag a stool in front of the workbench, drop my backpack to the floor, then sit down. I press Eject on the player. A plastic door eases open and I slide in the first tape.
Jay Asher's bestselling debut novel, Thirteen Reasons Why has been adapted into a 13-part series on Netflix. He got the idea for the novel while listening to a museum audio tour - he was struck by the eeriness of the voice in his ear, a woman who described everything he was looking at, but wasn't there. His novels have been translated into thirty-seven languages.

I thought of giving a review when I was half way through the book...But .. Never mind..
Actually there are more than 13 reasons why I liked and would suggest this book ...
But let me share you those 13 for now..
🎞️ 1. The way it's narrated .
It's an awesome narration ..
Infact it's the narration that kept me on it through out ..
🎞️ 2. Perfect thriller..
🎞️ 3. I think the writer is obsessed or fascinated by old stuff..
The girl in this story records her story or reasons and sends those tapes to those whom she wanted to know !
.I liked those things too..
🎞️4. The way school is culture is conveyed..
It's pretty frank version
🎞️5. Parties ..Chocolates ..Meetings..
🎞️6. Poetry of Hannah😁
🎞️7. Characterization.. it's mindbending 👌
Jay Asher has described the characters of Clay , Hannah Baker so perfectly just through listening and reacting kinda scenario
🎞️8. Chapters names .
CASSETTE 1 : side A..
CASSETTE 2 : side B..
I know these are minute things ..But..
When I read those I get a suddenly born interest that pounds out of my mind
And I eventually read and get carried away..
🎞️ 9 Emotions
You get so connected when you read this book ..
You feel the pain as if some one close to you died ..And your hearing their voice why ..
🎞️ 10. Friendship..
🎞️ 11. Loneliness
The way it's described in this book will give you a picture why people go crazy or why they feel they are all alone even though they are with us..Among us..
🎞️ 12. Privacy
If you don't value privacy then you are on the wrong track..In this story the main trouble begins when students start playing games on others privacy matters ..
That will make you realize to not keep our noses in others matters..
🎞️ 13. Realization of Life
This actually might sound different.. atleast while describing this kind of a book ..But bare with me..
After reading it . Im sure even if you are not a great broad minded person ,you will still realize that life can be handled by ourselves and that's why we live ...You get to know how to actually see things and their consequences instead of prepainting your selves with misconceptions or rumours or what others think about you..
You simply will know how to deal
And what will actually matter..
Note : I heard people saying that few reasons are silly ..all such stuff..
If you pic each reason separately you might find few which doesn't qualify as genuine reasons
But guys that's not the way you should see it..
Atleast the writer also wouldn't want you to see it that way ..
If you are desperate
Then try watching 13 reasons why WEB series (NETFLIX) ..You will love that too☺️
The moment I had learned of this book, through the series ofcourse, I had wanted to read it. The synopsis took me straight in and I couldn't wait longer to read it. However, getting half way through the book I kinda knew I'd be left disappointed.
The book covers a very dark topic, which is teen suicide. Honestly I was worried to tackle this book, afraid it would take a toll on me.
The story revolves around Hannah Baker, an insecure girl who obviously has issues with the society, making audio tapes about the people who drove her to commit suicide. These tapes are circulated among these people in the order in which they are mentioned in the tapes. Clay Jensen was one of them, and the story is seen from his perspective.
I dont know what the author was trying to bring out from this story. Did he expect us to empathise with the protagonist? Well if that's the case, he has failed. With me atleast. Because rather than empathising Hannah, I felt upset towards her. Upset that she didn't stand up for herself, that she put the blame on people around her, for making her life miserable, and did absolutely nothing about it.
And the ending wasn't what I had wanted for Hannah. I'm upset for her.
Give this book a shot if you're curious. I will definitely be watching the series though, to see if it would change my opinion about the book.
Coming to the story, It's about a teen girl committing suicide leaving a shoe box which has 13 reasons for her suicide recorded in 7 tapes. And the tape has to be passed on to the next person by the previous one. If they listen they'll learn that they are, in some way, responsible for her death.
Again it's not that the book is encouraging suicide but it is actually making us understand the view of the victim. Totally worth reading it❤
Ps. I bet you'll not be the same person with the same view after reading it.
