Charged and used for first time yesterday, Dec., 29 and today Dec. 30. Used in two new Tamiya lunchbox rc cars. The Tamiya cars are fun. One Tenergy battery ran out of charge about 25 minutes before the other both days. Both cars were operated at the same time and very close to the same speeds, etc. Obviously one is defective.
So two out of three Tenergy products were defective. Wrote to Tenergy customer service. No warranty info arrived with the batteries. I understand defects in products happen. I have rarely experienced the need to return a product.
Tenergy did respond to my seller feedback. Following some discussion they agreed to send a replacement. Good! Replacement arrived.
To re-test my contention that one was defective I charged both batteries again. My wife and I ran them. I had put the defective battery in mine so she would not be disappointed in run time. Same experience: my battery, the defective one, began to lose charge before hers even though she had run her car for a time before I joined in. The power loss was very obvious.
I have since purchased two Duratrax batteries for these cars. They seem to get good reviews. When we use these I will write a review.
As for Tenergy, well, I cannot recommend.
Update: Jan. 29, ran both cars. The defective battery in my car was flat from the start despite the volt meter reading I took two days ago showing the defective battery with 25% less of a charge remaining than the good battery. Threw it out.
After a couple of weeks I contacted the seller, but a return is costly for me. After testing it with a smart charger that supplies more than 5 amps, it could be charged!. After that, I used it normally, and charged it again with my tenergy smart charger which supplies 1.8amps and now it works normally. Don't ask me why does this happen, but I can use it now.
After some months trying to use it, it seems it won't hold a charge for the next day! what a problem! gonna give it a try soon to see if I can use it :/
But after 4-6 months both batteries would no longer charge. (I got the recommended tenergy charger too)
All the charger does is blink as an error.
I purchased a single battery pack and a battery pack + charger, and the charger is awesome too; you simply plug it in, select either 1 amp or 2, and they are done in a few hours. I make sure to give them all a trickle charge at least once a week since I would like to use them for a few years.
Overall, a really good purchase with what I believe to be a decent price. Packaging was good, and they shipped to FPO, AP = an added plus since some online retailers aren't hungry/ are a little lazy (extra form, boo-hoo) and won't ship to service members stationed overseas.
