These screen protectors alleviate that issue nicely -- screen doesn't look dark when turned on the side and while wearing sunglasses, and no fingerprints and smudges! Love it! Now you can have your phone turned sideways in the car, showing you a map/navigation, with sunglasses on, and you can still see the screen nicely. This was my main objective getting a screen protector - I'm constantly wearing sunglasses and having to remove them in the car to see my phone is/was aggravating. No more, yay!
The matte surface is nice and really does repel fingerprints and/or smudging from normal use (if you hand your phone to a sticky fingered toddler, it might not fare as well). It is does not have a glassy feel like the screen does, but once you're used to it it's fine.
Installation is always a pain, but that's with any screen protector. They supply all you need to get the job done and the videos on their website are helpful. They suggested applying it in the bathroom, which hadn't occurred to me, but it makes sense -- the daily high humidity from showering lowers the dust level considerably! I always thought that once you got some lint/dust on the sticky side of the actual protector you're basically done and need a new one, but they supply stickers that you can lightly use on the sticky side of the protector to pick up stray dust.
Very simplistic, but sufficient. Inside the package you see, there was a microfiber wipe, several 'dust removal' stickers, a cardboard card used to apply the screen protector, and 3 screen protectors. Each screen protector has a single side of protective film, presumably because the texture and matte finish of the other side does not require protection prior to installation.
Installation directions indicate that you should wipe the screen with the microfiber, then use the stickers to remove any dust, then to remove part of the protective film, align the protector, and slowly roll back the film to apply the protector to your screen. I followed these directions, but with the expectation that I would use one of the three included protectors as a throw-away to ensure perfect application of the second protector. This way I was able to practice aligning the protector, identify any dust particles that I didn't notice at first, and get the screen totally prepared for the protector. Yes, I did waste one of the three protectors, but this way I don't have any specs, spots, or bubbles between the screen and the protector.
The screen protector is almost totally undetectable. Another reviewer had a problem with the size, but I think the size is about perfect. If it were any bigger, installation would be much more difficult (you would have to ensure exact placement to avoid any overlap). As installed, there is a ~2 millimeter difference in height and less than 1 millimeter difference in width of the phone. The protector does a great job at reducing glare, and I really like the matte appearance it gives my phone. It makes my phone far easier to use in sunlight and adds a sense of depth and definition to the screen. If you've never seen the difference between a 'glossy' screen and a 'matte' screen, I recommend you try to see them side by side - it's amazing what a difference it makes. If you can't do that, I suggest you pull the trigger on the matte, anyway - my wife saw the phone for the first time with the protector already applied, and she really liked it.
There is a difference in the feel of the protector. While the naked screen feels smooth and slick, the protector adds a bit of resistance. I wouldn't call it 'rough', but it's not smooth anymore. There is a tactile sense that doesn't seem to impact my use at all - I've not had any trouble using the screen (keyboard, swipe, etc) from this. Think of it like the grip of a glove - perfectly smooth allows the finger to glide, which is useful, but has the least amount of grip and control. This screen protector is like a layer of tape used on running gloves - there is a tiny bit of resistance and added grip, but not enough be problematic. I would bet that the change in feel is the biggest reason people decide not to use this protector - I personally like it, but be warned that there will be a noticeable difference - you won't be able to fool anyone who resists even minute changes.
All their screen protectors come with dust removal tape and a card to smooth out the small bubbles. If applied correctly, you will have no bubbles.
This company doesn't disappoint, and it's very pleasant to find a company that has a very good value in their products.
I like the anti-glare matte finish that these screen protectors give with the anti-fingerprint. I can't find a better product and don't intend on switching my screen protection to any other company.
They also have very good customer service. I asked about this screen protector and the next day I got an email on where to find it.
I have also ordered their HD clear screens before. I don't like them as much as the the anti-glare ones, as I like the matte finish of the screen protector.
With these screen protectors, they can distort some colors for the anti-glare, if you don't like that then I would recommend the clear HD ones.
Either way, you have a good screen protector no matter what from Tech Armor.
