5.0 out of 5 stars Satisfactory performance over 3 years
Reviewed in India 🇮🇳 on 19 February 2022
I purchased this product in May 2018 for a little less than Rs. 7000. This was the first time I purchased an espresso machine and was using a moka pot and French press before that.

The package was delivered to me promptly and in good condition. The machine is relatively light weight (around 3-4 Kg) and easy to move around. The provided power cord is fixed to the machine and is quite short (around half-meter). The machine appears quite spartan and does not have any aesthetically-pleasing design element. While some buyers have reported that the plastic housing of their machines were broken on arrival, I did not face any such issue and received the box in a relatively undamaged condition.

The package I received contained the machine, a composite material (plastic-like?) portafilter with two pressurized baskets of different sizes. Apart from this I also received a plastic spoon with a tamper on the other side and an unbranded pack of ground coffee.

As I had already purchased a separate hand-held grinder, I never opened the free pack of ground coffee and thus cannot review it. In my defense, it lacked any sort of information on the packaging regarding either the estate or the roast level and I never felt the enthusiasm to open it.

I used the provided composite material portafilter and the double-shot basket for a period of around 6 months. During this time, I had some issues in cleaning the portafilter and the baskets as the pressurization system was sealed with screws which meant that cleaning it thoroughly every day was a little difficult. The rubber rings on the baskets which are used to maintain the pressure also became brittle and sticky over this period of use. Except this, the overall experience was satisfactory.

Due to the above issues with the pressurized portafilter, I purchased a “Barista Pro Kit” worth Rs. 3,950 directly from the seller by contacting them through the details provided on their website. This kit contained a stainless steel (?) bottomless portafilter, basket and tamper. I had also separately purchased an electric grinder during this time. The bottomless portafilter combined with the electric grinder improved the quality of the espresso shot quite significantly, and I was able to better control the parameters involved in making espresso.

While the seller had stated that the bottomless portafilter was made of stainless steel, it managed to come off during a brewing session and broke in two. This happened in around the 15th month of its usage and so I decided to purchase it again directly from the seller. I am using the second portafilter (third?) even today.

As far as the steaming experience is concerned, I had removed the pannarello attachment on the first day itself as I found the steam pressure to be insufficient for using the attachment. Without the attachment, the steam wand has a single nozzle. The wand is quite short (maybe 7 cm from the bend) and so you will need to use a shallow mug to steam your milk. If you allow the heating element of the machine to turn on twice before actually steaming the milk, you will find that it produces very less water and can consistently steam cold milk for two large drinks quite well. But if there’s any more milk you will find that the machine runs out of steam quite abruptly. Due to this limitation, I would not recommend making more than two drinks at a time.

The machine uses a thermoblock as the heating element and I think this does not give it enough control over the brewing temperatures. Due to this, some minor inconsistencies in the brewed espresso can arise. I have tried to work around this by noting the time at which I begin brewing after the machine was ready and after doing one initial water flush to heat the cup.

With extended use the rubber gasket on the machine which connects with the portafilter for making a seal has become quite brittle and I think it may need replacement down the road. Apart from this and the pressurized portafilter, I had quite a positive experience with this machine and would whole-heartedly recommend it to everyone wishing to take the plunge into making espresso. I use the machine to make around 2 drinks a day, which mark a very pleasant start and end to the workday.

The fact that the manufacturer is based in India and has been available on call to provide support and equipment has only added to the satisfaction of using this product.

To close out, I would say that I was quite happy with the experience and am looking forward to buying a boiler-based machine from this manufacturer which can address temperature control and steam pressure issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars The very best Coffee Machine even at double the price inspite of some areas of improvement.
Reviewed in India 🇮🇳 on 2 December 2017
I was looking for a high quality enthusiast focused espresso machine, and i didn't have to import one. I found Tecnora, and am more than happy with my purchase, and the price point. However, there are a few small points that if they work on - their machine will be by far best in the market even at double the price. DO NOTE that this is still the best out there at its price point. Performs as well as machines twice the price inspite of some areas of improvement.

    First off - what's good :
1.) Construction quality is decent. ABS plastic is used. Drip Tray is made of high quality metal. Sturdy and compact build.
2.) Quality of portafilter, portafilter basket, handle, the fit of the portafilter are all very good. No complaints at all.
3.) Scoop and Tamper are of plastic, but very high quality - and more than enough for most people. If you are a pro, then you should get a non pressurised portafilter and tamper that they sell separately.
4.) Assembly isn't a problem. You just set it up and plug it in and it works.
5.) Since it is thermoblock based, you get very precise water temperature, so that way - the quality of the espresso shot is AMAZING! Trust me it is AMAZING. For a moderate coffee addict like me, i was surprised that i could pull such a shot at my very first attempt! I used Blue Tokai, and it was fabulous.
6.) One of the ONLY COMPANIES at this price point that promise ATLEAST 15 BAR OF PRESSURE from their pump, that they say are sourced from the world's experts in espresso pumps. I have no reason to doubt them, as this company has a very detailed set of videos on YouTube explaining their product - Check them out. They even have a video of their facility in Lower Parel, Mumbai, and show case their employees as well.
7.) Thermoblock ensures FAST heat up of water, but doesn't make it boiling hot. It precisely makes it about 90 degrees C - to ensure ideal shot extraction. A boiler as is found on most other machines at this price point won't have that precision, and may use overheated water to brew.

Now for the areas of improvement or things to note while buying :

1.) Since this is a thermoblock based machine, it is always advised to run the machine with no coffee in the portafilter both BEFORE and AFTER pulling a shot. This means that you won't be able to churn out more than 2 espresso shots without noticing a slight dip in the quality of the crema, the taste of the shot also slightly may be different. Nothing MAJOR but hey - only enthusiasts and afficionados will look to buy an espresso machine, so be warned. YOU WILL HAVE TO DO A RINSE CYCLE (run machine without coffee) everytime for BEST RESULTS. This is even written in the manual.

2.) You will have to purge the steamer of some hot water before you get the steam you desire. This means you'll have to run it in a spare vessel for about 10-12 seconds to get the level of steam performance needed. Even this is standard procedure as listed in manual for best results. This means those seeking to have this in very small startup coffee shops will have too much work in their hands to deal with the volumes they churn out.

3.) There is no TIMER for the shot : I believe this is the most glaring set back. If there was a shot timer - i wouldn't need to do a guesswork on when to stop the extraction. This will be bad for first-timers, since you will only have to extract 30 ml for single shot espresso, and 60 ml for double shot. Better have a cup of the measurements mentioned - so as not to overextract and ruin your espresso. If they incorporate a timer, then this will be the BEST machine out there below 20k.

4.) The pour area will not fit big coffee mugs. You will have to remove the drip tray cover and even then, it'll be a snug fit. The machine is compact and not much space for mugs.

5.) No mug warmer - can't complain at such a fantastic price, of course. Your rinse cycle can take care of this, as the hot water rinsed, will warm up your cup before you pull a shot.

Of course - inspite of all the above - I really LOVE the espressos that this machine puts out. It is really fantastic, the crema on espresso is something i've rarely seen in our local shops, and the smells permeate the room for hours!! Like a pro coffee shop. The company is a passionate little company out of Mumbai, the owner seems like a very dedicated passionate guy, so stop thinking too much about the value - JUST GET IT.

This is FANTASTIC VALUE FOR MONEY for the Indian market. No need to look at italian machines for the masses who crave authentic quality coffee.
