I used the cover for about a week, it's not slippery but not very grippy either...just a hard thin, white polycarbonate plastic...kind of unremarkable. The initial impression that registers is cheap...especially right out of the package. I'll bet the tooling was fairly expensive to make the molds for this, and the packaging probably cost a couple bucks too, but the way the pencil holder snaps into the back is poorly engineered. If you go to Switcheasy's website you'll see they advertise the pencil holder as a handle of sorts...which it is definitely not. While carrying the iPad the pencil holder easily pinches, unsnaps due to the poor design, and breaks away from your hand...and the ipad falls out of your hand. I noticed this immediately upon first use, and it took about a week but it finally happened...thankfully the ipad was only about 6" above my desk so the fall didn't result in any damage. I re-packaged the cover in the original package and returned it that evening
After about a weeks time I was just not impressed...I didn't like the way the pencil cover snapped in, I didn't like the way the iPad wouldn't lay flat when I was finished with it and laid it on the counter for the evening...I didn't like the way the pencil holder kept the iPad from stacking flatly in a pile of papers and notepads when I was walking with it to and from the truck and most definitely didn't like the way the pencil holder is designed to easily break loose from the cover if you make the mistake of gripping underneath it with your fingers as it seems natural to do. If the company can re-design the pencil holder to slide into the cover somehow and fix this major design flaw I think they'll have a decent product here...and once they re-coup the costs of their mold expenses maybe they can get the cost down to a more reasonable price point. Until then I really can't recommend this product at all...sorry
It does fit the Pro and allows an Apple Smart Cover to work with it as I wanted and it does hold the Apple Pencil just fine.
Just not worth $40.
One corner the case goes slightly above the iPad which is nice because it slightly protects the front. But on one corner the case edge goes below the iPad's edge.
Update: 10 days later and the corner broke off.
The pencil holder is a nice addition and what makes this case stand out from the others
2nd update: got a new one last week after I contacted the vendor. Already broken in the same corner as the last one. It doesn't seem to fit right and the corners must break from the tension.
Of course it's thin plastic-that's what I wanted. I didn't want bulky.
Of course it's "expensive", although to me $35 isn't that much to me considering it's exactly what I wanted and the only of it's kind at this point.
It fits right to my iPad, it lets me use my keyboard at the same time, I can charge the pen without taking it off, AND (most importantly in my opinion) it hold the pen tightly but I'm still able to grab it with ease when needed.
