It could be due to the construction of the particular one I received, but it appears the screen protector bit is a complete failure. The clear plastic does not make full contact with the screen, but is extremely sticky on the backside. Therefore as you use it, you create large streaks where it makes contact amongst streaks where it is not making contact. Massive bubbles. I'm considering ripping out the screen protector all together and using it as is. The dust and water protection it would provide is minimal, since it can still get in from the speaker and camera cutouts. The screen protector applied directly to my phone will suffice for scratch resistance.
The top button cover is a bit annoying since it protrudes from the case farther than the phone's button protrudes from the phone itself. Being a sensitive button to start with, the button is easily accidentally pressed.
For drop resistance (without performing any real-world tests), it seems like it would be better protection than the average hard-plastic case. It covers all the edges and corners of the phone which, if otherwise unprotected, would cause the most damage to the screen. This case is similar to the Otterbox Commuter series in that it is constructed of two different densities of plastic. Unlike the Otterbox (which uses silicone), this case's soft plastic seems less prone to stretching and wearing out.
If the screen protector bit worked correctly, this would be a 4 star case. If the case was overall better sealed against dust and provided some additional splash resistance, it would be 5 stars.
It is a hard plastic/flex material that absolutely is the best protection available for your phone.
There are a few downsides that would most likely cause the average buyer a little bit of grief though....
Issue 1) The built in screen protector is awful. It has glare, fogs up, fits unevenly upon phone screen, etc.
If you buy this case, you should also buy a basic tempered glass screen protector to be used with this case instead of the one that it comes with. (See below for details)
Issue 2) You will need to train yourself to not accidentally press the power button by accident now that it is so prominently protruding from the phone. It took me about a week or so to get used to it/to stop accidentally turning my screen off randomly.
Issue 3) It is extremely difficult to put this case on, and even harder to get it off of your phone. People with arthritis/other grip and/finger related issues need not attempt to insert or remove their phone from this case without assistance.
*To remove the exisiting screen protector and replace it with a tempered glass screen protector, it will require you to use a razor blade or something similar to carefully cut and remove the flimsy plastic as well as the glued on edging (can be difficult, but well worth the 5 minutes).
Conclusion: Unmatched quality for the price for the minimal effort required to make it how it should have been originally made from its inception.
Now for the cons, this case is a pain in ass to get off. Getting it on was kind of hard the first time, but relatively easy getting it back on after that. But getting it off? You better have a lot of strength or fingernails of steel. It is ridiculously hard to get the case off, and this is one thing I wish they'd really really change about the case.
I would NOT recommend putting the screen protector on, unless you're okay with taking the case off constantly. It gets dirt, and if you have dogs, dog hair trapped underneath it all the time. If you get even the tiniest drop of water on it, it will find it's way underneath the screen protector and cause the screen to get wet, making it impossible for the phone's touchscreen to work correctly unless you take the case apart and dry it. If you do not take the case apart and get rid of the water, it will stay there for practically forever. The green, plastic part of the case has a lot of grime on the edges of it, but not noticeable unless you disassemble the case. Can be avoided with regular cleaning.
I would also like to add, this has survived a dog and horse chewing on it with no damage done to the case.
TL:DR: Beautiful case, is amazing at doing it's job. Can cause slight chipping to the phone's paint with lots of dropping. DO NOT use the screen protector, it only attracts dirt and water to get stuck underneath it. Case is extremely hard to get off. Would buy again, but would only use it when I'm highly active.
