Aparna Sen and Soumitra Chatterjee in a still from Basu Poribar. |
On location, Peace Haven, an exploration of death, a subject on which Soumitra- kaku and I had a number of discussions. I even conceptualized a bizarre idea for another film, which he was very enthused about. Unfortunately, we never got to putting it together. |
The cast of Basu Poribar. By the time the script was ready, the film had acquired the dimensions of a multi-starrer. As one of my assistants playfully commented, it was almost a snapshot of Bengali cinema history. |

The casual ones a their regular addas where Ghosh questions his idol on a variety of subjects.
The book made me want to watch all Ghosh’s films. (I’ve watched Peace Haven but now will watch it again with new insights. )
It also adds to the nuggets of information about a much loved and unmistakably super talented actor that fans have been gleaning from the many books that have been written on him and his work.
Most of all I loved the tone. Intimate. But never cloying. And straight from the heart.
A gem of a book.
The rare photos add their bit.
with the iconic actor. It has full of insights on the relationship between a director and an actor
Loved the Foreword by Sharmila Tagore ji. Must read.
