1. OEM is definitely heavier than the one from amazon
2. OEM says "Made in Japan" vs the one from amazon is "Made in China"
Check photos posted. The one on top with obvious wear is the one that came with my camera. The one at the bottom is from Amazon.
It appears to me to be a genuine Sony product at about half the price that Sony would charge on its web site. After reading about the problems that have been encountered by others with non-Sony options, I'd recommend this one. FYI, the packaging contains a USA/Canada 1 year warranty slip.
As far as some knock offs I've used in the past to save money (They work but to a certain extent).
When you shoot high speed or 4k some of them over heat and wont work.
So it's better to spend a little extra and get the product that works. Rather than go the cheaper route and make a mistake.
I'm going to see what I can do about returning this battery, but for a real Sony battery, I think 8 months of operation is way too short of a product life. However... I am just relieved that it started leaking inside the charger and not my NEX-6. That would have been a heartbreaker.
So, I cleaned up the battery, cleared off the contacts, and put it back onto the charger and the light blinks yellow. That means there is something wrong with the battery. So, we'll see what happens with the return process. I have knocked my review down to 2 stars because I really shouldn't have to deal with this.
